Over 14 people died and at least 24 were injured today morning as a mini truck overturned in Etah, Uttar Pradesh.
The accident occurred between 3:30 and 4 am when the truck, carrying a wedding party, was returning from Nagla Lal Singh in Jalesar area of Etah district. All passengers were from Nagaria village, Shamshabad, in Agra district.
The mishap took place near Sarai Neem in Jalesar area of Etah district.
Senior superintendent of police Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj confirmed the death toll and said it was yet unknown what caused the accident. The truck had broken through
the roadside railing and fallen into the shallow drain which had about 2 feet of water.
People crowd the accident site where a truck had gone off road. The vehicle was carrying a wedding party of about 50 people from Jalesar.
The Etah district magistrate also arrived at the spot.
The injured have been taken to SN Hospital in Agra and the Etah district hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicate that the driver, who is among the deceased, might have fallen asleep while driving since there were no signs of a collision nor was any vehicle nearby.
