In Uttar Pradesh, Goods and Service Tax -GST bill - 2017 has been unanimously passed by both houses. This bill was tabled in Assembly house yesterday by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Opposition Samajwadi party opposing the bill demanded some amendments which were turned down by the government and later the bill was cleared by house unanimously.
After passage from the lower house it was taken to Upper house, Legislative council, where opposition too expressed some apprehension in the name of loss to small traders and businessmen due to new bill regime.
The Cheif Minister while his address elaborated the benefits of the bill. After
it The bill was taken for passage which was unanimously cleared by the house.The government has convened week long special session of the Legislature which started yesterday. On 2nd of this month, the UP cabinet had approved a draft bill for implementation of the GST in the state.
After the passage of bill by the assembly, Uttar Pradesh will join states like Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Telangana, Bihar and Rajasthan whose legislatures have given their nod to the new tax regime.
Goods and Services Tax is scheduled for implementation from 1st of July which will create a single market and expected to make it easier to do business, increase trade and tax collection.
