The first session of Uttar Pradesh Legislature for the year 2021 will begin on February 18 with Governor Anandiben Patel addressing a joint session in both the houses of the Assembly.

The State governor has summoned the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha to meet at 11 am on February 18 for its first session of the year, Principal Secretary, Legislative Assembly, Pradeep Kumar Dube said in a statement.

According to sources, the Yogi Adityanath government will present the state budget on the next day of the session on February 19. This may be the final budget of the Yogi government in the run-up to the 2022 UP Assembly elections due in the state early next year. In

such a situation, this budget session may be of importance to the ruling Yogi government.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to expand his Cabinet on February 4 to change portfolios and induct new ministers, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close confidante Arvind Kumar Sharma, who was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative assembly last week, before the Panchayat polls in March.

The chief minister has already worked out the modalities of the Cabinet reshuffle during his last visit with BJP national president JP Nadda in Lucknow.

The expansion of the Yogi Cabinet is considered necessary given the forthcoming Panchayat elections.
