In the wake of allegations of EVM tampering in the recently held Uttrakahnd Assembly elections, the Nainital High Court today issued an order asking authorities to seal electronic voting machines in strong rooms for six assembly constituencies of the state.

The six constituencies are Mussoorie, Raipur, Rajpur, Ranipur(BHEL), Pratappur and Haridwar Rural. The high court has asked the authorities to seal the EVMs in the next 48 hours in the presence of judicial magistrate. The order was passed by Justice Sarvesh Kumar Gupta of

Uttarakhand High Court. All concerned parties have been given a 6-week period to respond.

Earlier, the high court had issued a similar order for the Vikasnagar Vidhansabha seat. It may be recalled that the order came on a petition by Congress leader and former state minister Navprabhat, who alleged that the BJP MLA from Vikasnagar, Munna Singh Chauhan manipulated EVMs to trick a victory.

Elections to the 70-seat Uttarakhand Assembly were held on February 15 with a 68% voter turnout.
