Four officers, including the Chief Project Manager of UP Bridge Corporation, have been suspended after two beams of an under construction fly-over collapsed in Varanasi,UP last evening. 

At least 18 people were killed in the incident, with 12 injured. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced financial assistance of five lakh rupees each to next of the kin of those killed and two lakh rupees to the injured. He visited the accident site last night and met the injured people in different hospitals. 

Mr Yogi also has set up a three-member high powered committee under



the chairmanship of Agriculture Production Commissioner RP Singh to probe the accident and asked to submit its report within 48 hours.

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also set up a three-member committee to ascertain the technical reasons behind it. Mr Maurya also announced setting up of a Safety Audit Cell to ensure safety measures at all projects being implemented by UP Nirman Nigam and UP Bridge Corporation.

Seven NDRF teams of around 325 men were deployed for relief operations which came to an end last night.
