Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Monday called upon states and Union territories to effectively implement the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 so that persons with disabilities get desired benefits at the earliest.
He was presenting National Awards on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in New Delhi.
Mr Naidu exuded strong belief that provisions of the Act have to be
strictly implemented to ensure that children with disabilities have access to school education.
He said they must be empowered to lead a dignified life and participate in political, social, economic, cultural and recreational activities without any discrimination.
He said education is the key to empowerment of every person including persons with disabilities.
