A vertical garden and a selfie point, installed near the VIP gate of the Taj Mahal to welcome guests arriving for the G20 Summit, collapsed on Thursday. The guests are scheduled to arrive in Agra on Friday evening.
The administration undertook a massive overhaul of the route stretching from Agra airport to the Taj Mahal. The vertical garden and selfie point were also part of the government’s makeover effort.
No tourists were present during the collapse as their presence would have proved fatal owing to the weight
of the garden.
Speaking to India Today, Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber Secretary Vishal Sharma said, “This is a matter of grave importance and must be dealt with immediate attention and seriousness.”
He said that the vertical garden was meant to represent respect for the guests visiting the country. Instead, it has become a source of embarrassment and shame.
“It is unacceptable that such an important event was marked by the collapse of such an important element of the decor,” said Sharma.
