Veteran Kerala leader MA Baby elected CPI(M)'s new party chief

Senior CPI(M) leader and former Kerala minister MA Baby has been elected as the new General Secretary of the party, succeeding Sitaram Yechury.

The 71-year-old leader, a member of the CPI(M) Politburo, previously served as Kerala's Education Minister from 2006 to 2011,



and was a Rajya Sabha MP from 1986 to 1998.

With the announcement at the CPI(M)’s 24th Party Congress held in Tamil Nadu's Madurai, Baby becomes the second leader from Kerala to head the party, after veteran leader and Kerala’s first Chief Minister, EMS Namboodiripad.
