The festival of Vijaya Dashami and Dussehra is being celebrated today with traditional fervour. This day symbolizes the victory of good over evil, truth over untruth and justice over injustice.
Lord Rama killed Ravana on Vijaya Dashami after Shakti Puja in the nine-day Navratri ritual. As a symbol of this, the programme of Ravana Dahan will be held this evening in various parts of country. The special events have been organized all over the country, in which effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna will be burnt.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu greeted the people on the eve of Dussehra.
In his message, the President wished people success, prosperity and happiness. He said, this festival is a celebration of the triumph of truth over untruth and inspires people to live
by the timeless values of honesty and truthfulness. Mr Kovind said, the life of Lord Rama is in essence a reflection of these values which remain as relevant today as ever. The President expressed hope that this festival will inspire people to work for the nation building and making a society that cares for the needy and the deprived.
In his message, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said, the festival of Dussehra symbolized the victory of good over evil and added that we need to constantly quell the demonic forces and foster goodness and harmony. He expressed hope that the festival will bring peace, harmony and prosperity to the country and the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted, in a tweet, the people on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami.
