Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla yesterday said that India, as the world’s largest democracy, has successfully embraced parliamentary democracy despite its vast diversity. He made these remarks while addressing the members of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) in the Parliament House Complex in New Delhi. Mr. Birla underscored that after independence, India adopted parliamentary democracy, and now, the nation is celebrating 75 glorious years of the Constitution. He said that in these 75 years, the nation has faced numerous crises and challenges but has always resolved them through dialogue and discussion.

Referring to the national goal of Viksit Bharat, Mr. Birla highlighted that the fulfilment of this goal lies with our educators and experts who are at the forefront of integrating the principles of democracy into students’ thoughts and practices. Mr. Birla noted that the country’s educational institutions, such as IITs and NITs, are not only leaders in spreading

knowledge but have also provided solutions to many of the world’s challenges. He added that teachers play an important role in realising the resolve of Viksit Bharat. Mr. Birla emphasised that teachers not only impart knowledge but also guide students by sharing their experiences and ideas, giving them a new direction.

Speaking about the efforts to make India the largest technology and innovation hub in the world, the Lok Sabha speaker called for further enhancement of national capabilities, particularly in innovation and research. He also informed about the active use of technological innovations in the working of the Parliament. He mentioned the simultaneous interpretation into 22 Indian languages and the digitisation of all debates in Parliament from 1947 to the present. He said that these steps have not only improved the efficiency of parliamentary work but have also made the Parliament of India a technologically advanced institution.
