Polling has begun for the second and final phase of Assembly elections in Gujarat. Voting is taking place for 93 constituencies in this phase. Voting, which began at 8 AM, will end at 5 in the evening. Over 2 crore 22 lakh people, including one crore 7 lakh women, are eligible to exercise their franchise.
The fate of 851 candidates will be decided
in this phase. BJP has fielded 93 candidates, and Congress has fielded 91. Prominent candidates include Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and Alpesh Thakor of Congress. A three-tier security arrangements has been made to ensure smooth conduct of polls. More than 100 companies of paramilitary forces, apart from state police, have been deployed.
