In Odisha, a wanted Maoist couple was killed yesterday in an encounter with security forces in the forests bordering Anugul and Deogarh districts. Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar yesterday evening, Director General of Police K.B. Singh said, the Maoist couple together carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh on their heads. Mr Singh said, chief of Kalinganagar division of Maoists Sushil and his wife Soni were killed during a special operation conducted by security personnel
in the area following intelligence inputs. Sushil had over 78 criminal cases pending against him. He had a bounty Rs 20 lakh on his head. The DGP said, Soni had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on her head. He said, Police recovered huge cache of rifle, arms, ammunitions and Mao literature. Terming this a spectacular achievement of the police in its anti-Maoist drive, the DGP said it will further boost the morale of the State Police force to take on the left wing ultras.
