In Andhra Pradesh, the water level in River Godavari is alarmingly rising and at Dhawaleswaram barrage it was 13 feet around 12 noon yesterday. About 13 lakh cusecs of water have been let out into the sea lifting all the 175 gates. The flood situation remained grim in Bhadrachalam division with the Godavari and its tributaries, including Taliperu, in spate disrupting road connectivity between Bhadrachalam and Venkatapuram and elsewhere in the Agency areas.
The water level in the river at Bhadrachalam in Khammam rose to 53 feet by yesterday. The bathing ghats on the banks of the river and the low-lying areas including Vista complex abutting the flood protection bund continued to remain under sheets of water in the temple town. Heavy rains inundated several villages disrupting the public life in Khammam and twin Godavari districts. The district administrations of East and West Godavari are making arrangements for evacuating people from lanka (island) villages. About 28 villages have been cut off
with other parts of the state after heavy rains and floods hit East Godavari as Sabari, a rivulet of Godavari River, is in spate.
Officials have reached all 28 villages most of them tribal hamlets and appealed to them to move to safer places as the water levels may rise further. The district officials are making arrangements to evacuate those affected.
At Chakalipalem in P. Gannavaram mandal, which connects East and West Godavari, vehicles are stranded since early hours yesterday. A flood alert has been issued in East Godavari district after water levels rose yesterday. The Godavari river is in full spate with water levels rising to the danger levels in Devipatnam, Posamma Gandi , SC pet, and Konda-medalu. On the other hand River Krishna is also receiving abundant water from above reaches due to heavy rains. Alamatty reservoir received 82,171 cusecs of flood waters yesterday. The river braches and rivulets are also getting rain water and swelling up increasing the flow.
