Ahead of the Assembly Elections in West Bengal, 5 Trinamool Congress MLAs including the former deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly Sonali Guha officially joined BJP today. The other 4 MLAs are Rabindranath Bhattacharya, Jatu Lahiri, Shital Sardar, and Dipendu Biswas. All of them joined BJP at Kolkata this afternoon in presence of the president of the BJP state unit Dilip Ghosh.
Senior leaders Mukul Roy and Shubhendu Adhikari were also present there. None of them were given tickets for the ensuing assembly elections by the TMC chief Mamata Banerjee as she had announced
the names of 291 candidates for all eight phases of polling in the state last Friday.
4 times MLA from Satgachia assembly constituency Sonali Guha, once a close aide of Mamata Banerjee, hinted at joining BJP the next day. Sarala Murmu, the earlier candidate of TMC from Habibpur seat also joined BJP today.
TMC changed their candidate this morning and named Pradip Baske in place of Murmu. BJP also bagged Malda Zilla Parishad from Trinamool Congress today as 14 members including the Sabhadhipati of the ruling party joined BJP. Out of 38, BJP now has 23 members.
