An amendment bill to the West Bengal Criminal Laws will be introduced at the West Bengal Legislative Assembly today. The bill seeks to give enhanced punishment to the offenders in rape, gang rape, rape and murder in West Bengal.
‘The Aparajita Woman and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill 2024’ seeks to amend the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the Bhratiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and it will apply only to the state of West Bengal. The bill will give enhanced protection to Women and Child in sexual offenses.
All the
offenses have been made cognizable and will be tried by the “Special Court” which is a Court of Session established under section 29A of the Act. The bill will also establish an Aparajita Task Force which will be a special task force at the district level headed by a police officer to the Deputy Superintendent level.
The Aparajita Woman and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill 2024 will be introduced at the house for consideration and passing. The bill will be sent to the Governor for his nod and then will be sent to the President of India for the final approval.
