West Bengal govt orders high-level enquiry over the violence during BJP chief's roadshow

The West Bengal Government has ordered a high-level enquiry over the violence during a road show of BJP President Mr Amit Shah in Kolkata yesterday. Police arrested more than 100 people in connection with the incident.

"Several organisations have condemned the vandalism and violence during the Road Show of Amit Shah in Kolkata.  The statue of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar was damaged which was installed at Vidyasagar College in Kolkata beside ransacking of college properties. 

The trouble began when a group of students of the college showed black flag to Amit Shah when his vehicle was passing through the area. The area suddenly turned into battlefields and clashes took place between Trinamool Congress and



BJP supporters in which both the groups indiscriminately used bricks and glasses. Two two-wheelers were set on fire. 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the college at night to take stock of the situation. Different organisations including Teachers bodies have called protest rallies in Kolkata today condemning the incident. 

Meanwhile, the senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi is once again coming to West Bengal today to take part in election rallies. Mr.Modi will address election campaign in favour of his party candidates at Taki and Diamond Harbour this afternoon. Elections will be held at 9 Parliamentary seats in the State on 19th of this month.
