Aurangabad: Shiv Sena leader and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray asked Aurangabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) Mayor Nandakumar Ghodele to pause a speech midway for azaan (Muslim prayer) and cited his grandfather Balasaheb Thackeray's teachings. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) member Imtiaz Jaleel later hailed Aaditya Thackeray for his gesture.
"Hindutva is our nationality. It is inappropriate to issue a nationality certificate to anybody. I have learnt from my grandfather Balasaheb Thackeray that we should not deliver our speech
during azaan and hence I stopped the mayor's speech today," said the son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.
Thackeray was in Aurangabad on Sunday to inaugurate city bus transport service. The 161 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant in Kanchanwadi was also inaugurated.
Besides Thackeray, Speaker Haribhau Bagade, MP Chandrakant Khaire, Mayor Nandkumar Ghodele, MLA Atul Save and MLA Imtiaz Jaleel were present at the event.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis did not attend the programme.
