Nagpur: The winter session of Maharashtra Legislature assembly will start today in Nagpur. State cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde approved a bill to enact new anti-corruption Lokayukta Act. For the first time, the Chief Minister and the Legislature will also come under the ambit of the Lokayukta. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave this information in a press conference held with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after the tea ceremony on the eve of the winter session.
Under the chairmanship of Anna Hazare, social reformer of Maharashtra, a committee for Lokayukta was formed with a coalition government of Shivsena-BJP. The report was submitted by this committee, has been accepted by the state
government, said Mr. Fadnavis. He further said, this is an important step to bring complete transparency in the state and the Prevention of Corruption Act has been included in the Lokayukta Act.
The Chief Minister said, two and a half lakh hectares of land will be brought under irrigation by giving 18 revised administrative approvals. On this occasion, both the leaders responded to the accusations and criticisms of the opponents.
According to the constitution of the country, the government in the state is legal and established on the strength of majority and this government has taken up important development projects on priority.
