A day before the filing of the nomination for the Congress presidential race, senior party leader Digvijiaya Singh emphasised that the Congress party is nothing without the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Digvijaya Singh, who has thrown his hat in the ring for the Congress chief post, said, “Without the Nehru-Gandhi family, the Congress is zero.”
Speaking about the recent crisis in Congress’s state units, Digvijaya Singh said, “There have been divisions within this party several times, but 99 per cent of Congressmen have supported the family that has served
the nation before and after Independence.”
When asked who will be the face of the Congress party, Digvijaya Singh reiterated, “Without the Nehru-Gandhi family, Congress would have no identity."
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh met Shashi Tharoor, who said they agreed that theirs is "not a battle between rivals but a friendly contest" among colleagues.
Digvijaya Singh said, “We are both Gandhian-Nehruvian ideologists. We have one ideology. We are contesting the election but we both will fight to strengthen Congress.”
