In Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that the Women's Police Battalion will be set up soon in the State. He was addressing the event to mark celebrations on 132nd Manipur Police Raising Day at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal yesterday.
He wished all ranks and files of the State Police and the people of the State on the Raising Day of the Manipur Police. He also announced the enhanced Ration Money allowance for Police personnel by rupees five hundred each.
Acknowledging the role of the State Police in not only maintaining law and order but also in the different fields, Mr. Biren Singh said that the Government understands the challenges and sacrifices of the State. He said that the people of the State cannot forget the role played by the State Police during the initial stage of the turmoil in moving families affected by the violence to shelter or relief camps.
Mr. Singh remarked that the War on Drugs campaign is not against any
individual or community but to safeguard and protect the present and future generations. Surveys are being conducted to identify poppy plantations at different locations and the destruction campaign will continue, he added.
He handed over trophies and awards to the selected battalion, stations and officers of the Manipur Police. The Chief Minister also took the Nishan Toli and March Past of thirteen contingents during the celebration. The Manipur Police Sports Club showcased a skill show followed by a motorcycle display.
After the Anglo-Manipuri War, in 1981, the British organised for the first time the State Military Police of Manipur, the forerunner of the Manipur Rifles. On the 22nd of October, 1948, the State Manipur Police was renamed as Manipur Rifles.
Manipur State Assembly Speaker, Ministers, MLAs, MP, Chief Secretary, DGP and other top civil and police officers also attended the Raising Day celebration.
