Today is World Tourism Day. The Day is celebrated on 27th September Since 1980 to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.The theme of this year is 'Tourism for all - promoting universal accessibility'.
In a massage, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that on this World Tourism Day, let the world recognize that all people can and should be able to participate in tourism and enjoy unforgettable travel experiences.
Celebrating the day, India will focus on cleanliness, security and better connectivity of tourist areas to boost tourism in the country. Tourism Minister
Mahesh Sharma in New Delhi yesterday said clean tourism is the dream of the Ministry which has been inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cleanliness movement.
To give impetus to the cleanliness initiative, the minister appealed that polythene would be banned at all tourist spots from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
On this occasion today The minister will flag off 'Swachh Paryatan Run' and a special sightseeing tour of the monuments and museums in Delhi for Divyang children.
Mr Sharma will also present awards to Rewarding Ministry of Tourism Offices, its organisations and of a painting competition organised by India Tourism.
