Leh: The Youth-20 (Y-20) pre-summit under the G20 presidency, hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, officially kicked off in Leh yesterday. More than 100 delegates from 30 different countries are attending the summit.
 
On the first day of the summit, the delegates visited local places of importance, including Hemis and Thiksey Monasteries where they received a rousing welcome by the monks. The delegates also witnessed a mask dance performance and participated in prayers. Later in the evening, the delegates visited Snyemo Sangam and Guruthwara Pather Sahib.
 
On the second and third days of the summit, different programmes will be showcased with a focus on the involvement of local youth from various backgrounds, including sports, entrepreneurship, art, and medicine.
 
The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and Information and Broadcasting Sh. Anurag Singh Thakur, is also expected to hold a youth dialogue with the Youth 20 delegates. Lieutenant Governor Ladakh, Brig (Retd.) B. D. Mishra, will also address the delegates at the Sindu Sanskriti



Auditorium.
 
There will also be technical sessions and deliberations on different themes, including the future of work; climate change and disaster risk reduction; making sustainability a way of life; peace building and reconciliation; the role of youth in democracy and governance; and health, wellbeing, and sports.
 
The programmes will be a part of G-20 theme-based activities focusing on economic growth through broadened entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth in the fields of handloom, handicraft, and food processing sectors.
 
The three-day programme is scheduled to feature interactions between different dignitaries from the Central Government and UT Administration, Y20 delegates, and local youth.
 
It is noteworthy to mention that Y20 is an official consultation forum for youth from all G20 member countries to be able to dialogue with each other. Y20 encourages youth as future leaders to raise awareness of global issues, exchange ideas, argue, negotiate, and reach consensus.
