Sulkhan Singh, the senior most IPS officer of the 1980 batch of the UP cadre on Friday replaced Javeed Ahmad as Uttar Pradesh Deputy General of Police. The Yogi Adityanath government, since taking office has made some changes in the law and order department as well as effected other administrative changes at the top. Most of these changes have come in the backdrop of the new Chief Minister promising a better law and order situation in the state – the

former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government’s record on this front had been patchy.
Earlier in March, when Adityanath had assumed office, the Uttar Pradesh Police had suspended over 100 policemen. Most of these suspensions had taken place in Ghaziabad, Meerut and Noida. Interestingly this crackdown,  had come after the directives issued by Javeed Ahmed to identify the “black sheep among policemen.”
