In Ladakh, Zanskar has officially been declared a new district in the Union Territory of Ladakh, following an announcement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah Monday. The historic declaration was celebrated yesterday during a press conference called by Executive Councilor Punchok Tashi of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil.

Minister Amit Shah and LG Ladakh Brig. Tashi expressed the immense joy and gratitude of Zanskar’s residents, highlighting that this achievement fulfils a decades-long demand for district status.
Five new districts have been created in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The new districts are Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang.
