December 24,2014 : Hyderabad: Congress leaders on Tuesday bid farewell to the senior party leader and former Union Minister G Venkataswamy, who died after a prolonged illness on Monday. All India Congress Committee vice-president Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Digvijay Singh and several other top leaders participated in the final rites of Venkataswamy which were performed with State honours. His elder son Vinod lit the pyre and performed the rituals. State Congress leaders S Jaipal Reddy, Dr P Shankar Rao, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, D Srinivas, Geetha Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ministers T Harish Rao, Jogu Ramanna and many other leaders from various parties and fans of Kaka attended the ceremony. According to sources, final rites were held at 5 pm instead of at 2 pm as arrival of Rahul Gandhi was delayed by an hour. Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, leaders of various political parties, balladeer Gaddar and other prominent leaders paid tributes to the departed leader.
