Mumbai: At least 11 people were killed in Thane district when a three-storey-building collapsed in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Thane Municipal Corporation had issued notices to residents of the 50 year old, Krishna Niwas building as it was in a dilapidated condition, the officials said. While some families had evacuated the building a few others continued to stay there, they added.
Fire Brigade officials said seven people were also injured when the building named
Krishna Niwas located in the D-Cabin area of Thane collapsed.
Fire Brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were engaged in the rescue operation immediately after they got the information about the incident.
Guardian Minister Eknath Shind, Collector Ashwini Joshi, Municipal Commissioner are also monitoring the rescue operation.
Several people are still feared trapped under the rubble, the officials said.
