The number of downloads of Aadhaar on the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website has crossed 40 crore, Niti Aayog said on Monday. The average number of downloads per day is now 6 lakh.
The popularity of download can be attributed to the increased usage of Aadhaar as Proof of Identity and Proof of Address by service providers and the ease with which it can be downloaded from UIDAI website, the Aayog said in a statement.
The total number of Aadhaar generated as on May 2, 2016 stood at 100.93 crore. The downloaded version has been notified as a valid proof of identity and address by the
Reserve Bank of India.
The Aadhaar downloaded from UIDAI’s website has the same validity as the card received by post. The data in the electronic version is the same as what is printed on the Aadhaar letter.
“Anyone who has misplaced his/her Aadhaar or is yet to receive the card through post, can easily download it after providing certain details online… In case a person does not remember the details, it can be downloaded and printed at the nearest authorised Aadhaar Kendra for a nominal fee of Rs.10,” said Dr. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Director General & Mission Director, UIDAI.
