The Railways will soon move towards an Aadhaar-based online ticketing system to prevent impersonation and stop touts from blocking tickets in bulk.
“The Aadhaar number will be required for one-time registration on the IRCTC ticketing site. The step is aimed at eliminating touts from registering with fake identities," a senior Railway Ministry official said. Software is being developed for
this.
From April 1, providing the Aadhaar number will be mandatory for senior citizens availing concessions on train tickets. A three-month trial began on January 1.As per the new business plan 2017-18, the Railways are also planning to move towards cashless ticketing system by installing 6,000 point-of-sale machines and 1,000 automatic ticket vending machines across the country.
