Hyderabad, December 17,2014 (Etemaad News) In order to bridge the gap between policing and community, the Hyderabad city police on Tuesday launched Facebook page for all 60 police stations in the city. Stressing on the importance of internet and social media as an interactive tool for citizen-friendly policing, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma said, “The community can inform police about their needs on real time basis and vice versa. It would help us understand the satisfaction levels of public and also take feedback.”

However, the DGP pointed out that denizens would not be able to lodge official complaints. “Following the prime minister’s vision for smart policing, we have been able to launch it. In the initial stage, we have restricted the page to interactive purpose,” the DGP told newsmen.

All 60 police stations in the city will now

have a facebook page. Police personnel in each police station have been trained to handle their facebook pages. The decision, he said, was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the all India DGPs’ conference last month in Guwahati, he said.

The DGP said such a social media tool would help in terms of preventing crime, detecting crime, maintenance of law and order, surveillance over crime and criminals, citizen grievance redressal, emergency response management, collection of intelligence, community policing and prosecution of criminals etc.

One need to either visit www.hyderabadpolice.gov.in or www.facebook.com/hyderabadpolice under which the specific link for each police station would be available.

Police commissioner  M Mahender Reddy and other senior officials were present at the press meet.
