Delhi government has
said all precautionary measures are being taken to end the possible threat of
avian influenza or Bird flu in the national capital. Addressing a press
conference in New Delhi yesterday, Delhi Minister for Development Gopal Rai
said, his department has sent 50 samples from various bird sanctuaries and zoo
in Delhi to Jalandhar laboratory for analysis. He said that a 23 member
co-ordination committee has been setup under the chairmanship of Development
commissioner Sandeep Kumar.

teams have also inspected the Ghazipur chicken wholesale market and a few
birding sites in the city. The Delhi Zoo and the city's famous deer park have
been shut down following possible threat of Bird flu. Since last week, 20
migratory birds have been found dead in the national capital. While the H5N1
virus can infect people, no human bird flu case has ever been recorded in India
despite several outbreaks among birds.
