Assam's flood situation worsens

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam worsened on Friday even as the meteorological department warned of more rains in the coming days. Two people have died due to the floods.

An official said one person died in Baksa district on Friday while another person was washed away a few days ago by the surging water in Lakhimpur district.  In the wake of incessant rain, the flood situation worsened in at least 16 districts affecting 2.11 lakh people.

According a Central Water Commission report, the Brahmaputra river is flowing above danger level in Jorhat and Dhubri districts.

Tarun Gogoi on Friday asked the administration to take steps to ready food stuff, medicine and other essential commodities to face any situation.

Mr Gogoi also directed the administration to do everything for relief and rescue operation in the affected districts.

The state has experienced 14 breaches of embankments in the current spell of flood - 10 in Nalbari, three in Sonitpur and one in Karimganj districts.

Besides, the Chief Minister directed officials to maintain constant liaison with Bhutan along with sharing flood related data to mitigate the impact of flood.
