Centre asks states to organise gram sabha on Oct 2

Centre has asked the states to organise gram sabhas tomorrow on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Rural Development Secretary Amarjeet Sinha has written a letter to state principal secretaries of rural development in this regard. 

Mr Sinha said, Gandhi Jayanti is an occasion for gram sabhas to deliberate on the progress



made and priorities for reducing deprivation of the poor. He urged the states to use the opportunity to reflect on where the Gram Panchayats stand with regard to reduction of deprivation of poor households.

Mr Sinha has also asked states to conduct social audit through certified social auditors from self help groups.
