Centre to move SC against HC's order quashing President rule in Uttarakhand

The Centre will move the Supreme Court today challenging the Uttarakhand High Court's order quashing the imposition of President's rule in the state. Talking to reporters in New Delhi last evening, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said, he will mention the matter before the apex court seeking a stay on the verdict. The High Court yesterday ordered restoration of the Harish Rawat-led Congress government in the state saying that the Centre did not have any concrete proof to impose the President's rule.

The court asked Chief Minister Harish Rawat to prove his government's majority on the floor of the Assembly on the 29th of this month. Reacting to the



judgement, Mr. Rawat cautioned the Centre not to interfere in States' affairs. BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said, the Harish Rawat government is in minority and it will be proved in the floor test. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, the court's decision was a victory of democracy.

BJP President Amit Shah met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi last evening in the backdrop of the High Court's decision. Reports say Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Nripendra Mishra and senior advocate Harish Salve also attended the meeting which took place at Mr. Shah's residence.
