Hyderabad, December 23, 2014 (Etemaad News)Senior Congress leader G Venkata Swamy passed away here on Monday evening. Venkata Swamy, popularly known as Kaka, was admitted to the Care Hospital in Banjara Hills and was placed on ventilator. He breathed his last on Monday evening. He was 85.His sons G Vivek and G Vinod were MP and MLA respectively.

Former Union Minister Venkataswamy held important portfolios including Labour and Textiles. He also served as a Minister in Andhra Pradesh from 1978 to 1982 in the cabinet of P V Narasimha Rao.  Swamy was credited with having provided accommodation to 75,000 hut dwellers. He founded BR Ambdekar Group of institutions including - Dr BR  Ambedkar Post Graduate Centre, Dr  BR Ambedkar Degree College, and



others 

Governor ESL Narsimhan, Union Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya and Y Sujana Chowdary, TS Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, TTDP leader L Ramana,  E Dayakar Rao, TBJP president G Kishen Reddy, TPCC president P Lakshmaiah and others expressed deep condolences over the death of the veteran Congress leader.

 KCR said Venkatswamy's services for the poor would be remembered forever and directed Chief Secretary to make arrangements for the funeral with full State honours. Earlier during the day, senior Congress leaders D Srinivas, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, former Speaker K R Suresh Reddy, former minister D Sridhar Babu and others went to the hospital and enquired about his health condition.
