Thursday, 1 January 2015 Chennai (Agencies) : Condemning the ordinance on Land Acquisition Act as anti-farmers, CPI (M) on Thursday asked the Centre to rescind it and urged the Tamil Nadu government not to implement it in the State.The ordinance to amend the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 received Presidential assent on December 31. The ordinance has already been opposed by parties including Congress and NDA ally PMK in Tamil Nadu.CPI(M)'s State Council,which met in Chennai on Thursday, adopted a



resolution condemning the ordinance. "This ordinance is against the interests of farmers and it could deprive them of land which is their source to livelihood," the resolution said.Another resolution asked the State to rein in spiralling cement prices."The price of cement has gone up by Rs.100 per bag in the past 100 days," it said. Tamil Nadu should fix Rs.3500 per tonne as support price for sugarcane farmers immediately.The State should arrange for disbursement of Rs.363 crore pending arrears to cane ryots by sugar mill owners, a separate resolution urged.
