Culture, Cuisine and Cricket deeply connect India and Guyana: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that culture, cuisine and cricket deeply connect India and Guyana. Addressing the Indian diaspora at the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown, Guyana, Mr Modi asserted that the commonalities provide a strong foundation for friendship between the two nations.

Prime Minister praised the Indo-Guyanese community and their contribution to the development of the Caribbean nation. He stressed that the shared values between the two nations provide a strong foundation for their friendship.

Prime Minister said that India’s journey over the past decade has been one of scale, speed and sustainability. Mr Modi said, India  will soon become the third largest economy of the world. He said, in 2014, India was the 10th largest economy and in just 10 years it has become the 5th largest economy.

The Prime Minister said, the Indian youth have made the nation the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. He said, India’s growth has not only been inspirational but also inclusive. Mr Modi said, India’s digital public infrastructure is empowering the poor. He said, over 500 million bank accounts for the people have been opened and connected with digital identity and mobiles, due to this, people receiving assistance directly in their accounts.

commended the Indian diaspora for preserving their culture and traditions. He invited them to visit their ancestral land. The Prime Minister said, the Indian diaspora in Guyana has made an impact across many sectors and contributed to Guyana’s development. He said, the members of Indian diaspora are the Ambassadors of Indian culture and values.

Mr Modi said, he is deeply touched by the love and affection given to him since his arrival.

   

In his address, President of Guyana Irfaan Ali said, Mr Modi has brought a level of dignity and pride to India that is unmatched. He said, today, many developing countries and developed countries look to India for example, look to India for technology, look to India for research and development. Mr Ali said, it speaks volumes and about the transformation.

     

Mr Modi along with Mr Ali met with prominent Cricket personalities from the West Indies today in Georgetown. Talking of people to people ties, Mr Modi noted that Cricket binds India with the Caribbean like no other medium. He said, the sport has brought the nations closer and deepened the cultural linkages.

After completing a very warm and productive visit to Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for New Delhi.
