Hyderabad: Police officials have been asked to play a key role in making the government-sponsored Iftar party to 'poor' Muslims across the State, especially in Hyderabad a huge success. The iftar party would be held on July 12 across 100 mosques in city and one mosque in each Assembly constituency across the State.

The State government will provide the amount to mosque committees for organising the event and police would assist them for the success of the programme, he said

Announcing this at a meeting of police officials with representatives of mosques and mosque committees at Haj House, ACB director-general A K Khan said that police would look after the arrangements of iftar parties. He sought full cooperation of the mosque committee members and imams in organising the iftar in a successful manner across the State. He said that the iftar party would be held at four mosques at each of the 24 assembly segments in the GHMC area and at one mosque in the rest of the Assembly segments in the State.

“The State government will provide the amount to mosque committees for organising the event and police would assist

them for the success of the programme,” he said. The iftar party would be for 1,000 people at each mosque and about 100 mosques in the city have been identified for the event. Khan said that it was the responsibility of the mosque committees to make the event successful.

He said that Rs 1 lakh would be released in advance for each mosque within a day or two and remaining amount would be provided later. Speaking on the occasion, city police commissioner M Mahendar Reddy said that Hyderabad and Cyberabad police officials would ensure proper arrangement of the event in the city. He asked Muslim clerics and mosque committee members present in the meeting to ensure that the event does not bring a bad name for the State government.

Telangana State minority Welfare Department secretary Syed Omar Jaleel said that the government would distribute clothes to the poor beneficiaries identified by the mosque committees. He said that two sarees for women and 5 ½ meter cloth for men would be distributed before Eid. The mosque committees and Imams are asked to suggest a date or distribute on their own to the identified beneficiaries in their localities.
