Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the demonetisation drive was a tough decision to take in view of the opposition parties' constant efforts to turn people against it.
In the end, however, the people stood by the decision of his government, Mr Modi said. He was addressing a rally in Guwahati yesterday evening on the occasion of completion of three years in office of BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
Prime Minister thanked 125 crore people of the country for standing by him on every decision his government took. Mr Modi said, demonetisation has brought 90 lakh people into the tax net. Prime Minister said he decided to take strong steps against black money despite knowing that this will face problems.Mr Modi said he will not hesitate in his crusade against black money as he has promised this to the people.Prime Minister criticised previous governments at the Centre for not
notifying Benami Properties Act despite being passed in 1988.
Highlighting some of his government's achievements, Mr Modi referred to the setting up of OBC Commission, Swachch Bharat campaign, surrender of LPG subsidy by people, spread of Internet to villages, transforming post offices into banks, irrigation system and providing LED bulbs to common people.
During his day-long tour of Assam, Mr Modi said projects worth 3,500 crore rupees have been either conceived or commissioned in the state in a single day.Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the country's longest Dhola-Sodia bridge and laid the foundation stone of the proposed Indian Agriculture Research Institute at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district.
Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of an All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) near Guwahati which will be completed with 48 months.
