New Delhi: The festival of lights,
Diwali is being celebrated in different parts of the country today with
traditional fervour and gaiety. Diwali represents the victory of light over
darkness and good over evil. People have decorated their houses with fancy
lights and are preparing to worship Goddess of wealth Lakshmi on this occasion.
President, Vice President and Prime
Minister have greeted the people on the occasion. In a message, President
Pranab Mukherjee wished the festival to serve as a catalyst for greater unity
within the country. Mr Mukherjee appealed to the people to share happiness,
help the needy and engage in collective efforts to lead the nation to greater
and greater glory. Mr
Mukherjee also urged the countrymen to celebrate Diwali
in a pollution- free manner.
Vice President Hamid Ansari, in his message said that the festival of lights signifies the victory of good over evil and reaffirms people's belief in the noble ideals and morals of Lord Rama’s life. He expressed hope that the festival will bring peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness in people's lives.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the people of the country and the people living across the world on the occasion of Diwali.
