External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar met the Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh in Vietnam. Both leaders discussed ways to boost bilateral relationships. In a social media post, Dr. Jaishankar said, a stronger India-Vietnam partnership contributes to a stable, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
The External Affairs Minister also met the Chairman of the External Relation Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam Le Hoai Trung during the second day of his visit to Vietnam. During the visit, he also met with former Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien yesterday.
Earlier, Dr. Jaishankar addressed the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam on "India in the Indo-Pacific". On this occasion, he underlined the significance of ASEAN centrality and highlighted the contribution of the QUAD.
Dr. S Jaishankar also co-chaired the meeting of the 18th India-Vietnam Joint Commission in Hanoi with his Vietnamese counterpart
Bui Thanh Son. The discussions covered cooperation in political, defence and maritime security, judicial, trade and investment, energy, development, education and training, science and technology, and cultural domains.
In a social media post, the Minister expressed confidence that India-Vietnam's Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will only further strengthen over the coming years. He said they also shared perspectives on the Indo-Pacific region, commitment to global issues and collaboration in various multilateral groupings.
The External Affairs Minister also jointly unveiled the commemorative stamps celebrating 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Vietnam with his counterpart. He said that the stamps, depicting Kalaripayattu and Vovinam, capture the shared affinity for sports and celebrate the strong cultural, social and people-to-people links between the two countries.
