External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Rome on Sunday as part of her visit to Italy. She is on a seven-day visit to four European nations - Italy, France, Luxembourg and Belgium.
In a tweet, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that Mrs Swaraj reached Rome on her first leg of her tour.
It will be the first major political exchange between India and Italy following the swearing-in of Mr Giuseppe Conte as Italy’s new Prime Minister on 1st June 2018.
While in Rome, Mrs Swaraj will meet Prime Minister Conte and also review
bilateral relations between the two countries with her Italian counterpart Enzo Moavero Milanesi.
She will be in France from 18th to 19th of this month. Mrs Swaraj will reach Luxembourg on 19th June. The External Affair Minister will be visiting Belgium from 20th to 23rd June.
The visit to the four European nations will provide an opportunity to hold in-depth discussions with the political leadership on a wide range of global, regional and bilateral issues and advance India's growing strategic engagement with the European Union.
