Polling has begun for the second and final phase of assembly elections in Assam and second part of first phase in West Bengal. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for today's voting in both the states. In Assam, voting began at 7 am in 61 constituencies covering lower and central parts of the state in this phase. A total of 525 candidates including 48 women are in the fray. Official sources said, central armed police forces have been deployed in almost all polling booths. 
1 thousand 617 booths have been identified as hyper sensitive in this phase. A total of over 1 crore 4 lakh eligible voters can exercise their franchise. The first phase of election recorded over 82 percent polling. 505 polling booths have been covered by web casting and static video cameras have been deployed at 559



stations. Election Commission has also deployed 916 Micro Observers in this phase. There are 73 all women polling stations in the second and final phase. 
Most of the seats are likely to witness triangular fight between BJP - Asom Gana Parishad- BPF alliance, AIUDF and Congress- UPP combination. Former Chief Minister and Asom Gana Parishad leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and sitting MLA Keshab Mahanta, Congress leaders Nilmoni Sen Deka, Dr. Nazrul Islam, Rockybul Hussein and Akon Bora, BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma, Manoj Baruah, Siddhartha Bhattacharya and Ranjit Kumar Das are in the fray. Political fate of AIUDF President Badruddin Ajmal and sitting MLA Abdur Rahim Khan, Pramila Rani Brahma and Chandan Brahma from BPF and Munin Mahanta of CPI will also be decided in this phase.
