Severe flash floods have been reported in many parts of Scotland, with people taking to social media to share scenes of sunken cars, disrupted transport, and submerged belongings.
Amid all the chaotic visuals, a resident of Glasgow was left perplexed after he spotted a 'mermaid' swimming on a flooded street across his house.
Gavin Miller, who lives in Battlefield Gardens in Glasgow's southside, was just looking at the rainwater that had accumulated on the street when he spotted the mythical creature swimming in the water.
Upon closer inspection, he realised it was a woman who was dressed in a fancy mermaid costume and making the most of the flooded conditions.
I absolutely love my neighbourhood of Battlefield.
Mermaid was out today in the flash floods. Hope those affected by the floods are ok.
Gavin said the unusual sight left him confused for a few seconds. He took pictures of the woman but was unable to leave his top-floor apartment due to
flooding.
The photo quickly went viral and many users shared it on Twitter, along with other videos and photos of Scotland's flooded roads and neighbourhoods.
A user wrote, "I absolutely love my neighbourhood of Battlefield. Mermaid was out today in the flash floods. Hope those affected by the floods are ok."
The authorities have urged locals to take extra care while driving on roads. According to reports, the flooding has affected rail travel across the country.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms.
"Many of the showers and thunderstorms will ease on Sunday evening but there is a small risk of heavy rain persisting into Sunday night in a few places," said a Met spokesperson.
Before this, a man was spotted swimming across a waterlogged street in Moscow in June.
A video posted on Twitter shows a man having a leisurely afternoon swim in the flooded street. He walked for a couple of seconds in knee-deep water and then jumped to start swimming.
