Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar is reaching Beijing today for talks with top Chinese officials. His visit comes amid differences between the two countries over issues like India's Nuclear Suppliers Group bid and China's blocking of efforts to get Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar banned by the United Nations.
During the visit, Mr Jaishankar will attend an upgraded
strategic dialogue with Executive Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui and is expected to meet Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Foreign Secretary will also meet State Councillor Yang Jiechi, Beijing's Special Representative for India-China border talks.Mr Jaishankar had served as the Indian envoy to China from 2009 to 2013, the longest tenure by an Indian diplomat in Beijing.
