Dhaka: The cruise members of the world’s longest river cruise Ganga Vilas spent the 32nd day of their journey in seeing some of the historic places in Dhaka and nearby areas on Friday, February 10. After arriving at Narayanganj early evening on Thursday from Barisal, the tourists stayed on the ship overnight.
On Friday, they visited the ruins of Panam city near Sonargaon which was the capital city of Bengal in the 15th century. The double-storied buildings existing in Panam city in current times are from the 19th century. The two storied ruins of Panam city reflect the influence of the European architectural style. Panam city attracts a large number of tourists on a regular basis.
The tourists also visited the Sonargaon folk museum to see the centuries old statues, wood sculptures and other
artefacts giving them a glimpse into the culture and heritage of the country and the region. At the 16th-century Goaldi mosque in Sonargaon, the cruise members experienced the specialised architecture of the mosque.
The cruise tourists had a taste of the traditional Dhaka food in the Old Dhaka area and visited some of the historic buildings of the city like the High Court building, Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, the monument built to honour the martyrs of the language movement and the historic Dhakeshwari temple.
They also visited the Parliament building which is considered an exquisite example of modern architecture in Bangladesh. The tourists are spending the night at Boidderbazar, Narayanganj and will sail to their next destination to Aricha on Saturday morning.
