Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza defeated his nearest rival Vinod Phadke of the MGP in Mapusa constituency as results began pouring in for elections to the 40-member state Assembly.
D’Souza (BJP) won by a margin of 6,806 votes against Phadke, who is also the secretary of Goa Cricket Association. Two other BJP nominees -- Pravin Zantye and Michael Lobo



-- also emerged victorious in Mayem and Calangute seats respectively.
While Zantye defeated Congress rival Santosh Sawant by 4,974 votes, Lobo won by 4,460 votes against Congress candidate Joseph Sequeira. Congress's Francis Silveira bagged the St Andre constituency. He got the better of BJP's Ramrao Wagh by a margin of 5,070 votes.
