Goa Shipyard Showcases Indigenous Naval Vessels at NAVDEX 2025

Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), one of India’s premier defense shipbuilding yards, is showcasing its indigenously designed Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) and Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) at NAVDEX 2025 in Abu Dhabi. These vessels highlight India’s growing capabilities in naval innovation and self-reliance under the “Make in India” initiative.

The Fast Patrol Vessel(Model) on display is a 50-meter-long, high-speed craft capable of reaching 35 knots. Designed and built in-house by GSL, it is primarily intended for patrolling, anti-smuggling, and anti-terrorist operations. Additionally, it can serve as a coastal convoy escort and a communication link during wartime. 

The vessel is powered by three 2,720 kW diesel engines driving independent waterjets, offering high maneuverability and efficiency. With fully air-conditioned accommodations for 35 personnel, it is designed to withstand challenging sea conditions and sustain operations for extended durations without external support.

GSL has successfully delivered seven FPVs to the Indian Coast Guard, which have proven their capabilities in national emergencies, including disaster response during tsunamis. Additionally, two FPVs have been exported to Mauritius, reinforcing GSL’s footprint in the global defense sector.

The Offshore Patrol Vessel, another key exhibit at NAVDEX 2025, is renowned for its high stability, operational versatility, and



adaptability to diverse missions, including combat operations, law enforcement, anti-piracy patrols, search-and-rescue missions, and environmental disaster response. Built with a robust steel hull, the OPV is engineered to endure heavy sea conditions while ensuring optimal performance in multi-role operations.

GSL is also presenting other advanced maritime solutions, including floating docks, which adjust with tidal movements rather than being fixed to the seabed, and pollution control vessels designed for marine pollution management and oil recovery operations in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Established in 1957, GSL has evolved into a leading defense shipbuilder, recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) for its indigenous warship design and development. As a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) since 1967, GSL continues to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s maritime defense capabilities.

NAVDEX 2025, held alongside IDEX, serves as a vital platform for international cooperation in defense and security. Organized by ADNEC Group in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Defence and Tawazun Council, the five-day event brings together global defense leaders, government officials, and industry experts to explore emerging defense trends, strategic partnerships, and technological advancements in military innovation.
