New Delhi: Sources say the government is likely to announce One Rank One Pension today. The military veterans have been on an indefinite strike in New Delhi demanding the implementation of the long awaited proposal of the equality in pensions.
The government sources say that 98% of demands made will be accepted and the pension will be equalized every five years but not two years as demanded.
The arrears will be paid in four
installments and the widows and ex-servicemen aged 70 and above are likely to be paid first. The benefits will be available to war widows and not to soldiers who opted for a premature retirement. The lowest rank jawans will get a hike of Rs.3500 to 4500 a month.
Today is the 84th day of the protest and the veterans reject the government's decision to ‘unilaterally’ implement the pension scheme. The veterans plan to hold a mega rally on September 12.
