Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday announced that government would construct 60,000 houses this year, including 36,000 houses in rural areas and 24,000 houses in urban areas.

He asked collectors to see that these houses are built in the form of colonies and asked them to take up land acquisition matters on a priority basis.
The Chief Minister pointed out that earlier housing schemes were rife with
corruption. “In a single year, Rs 5,000 crore-worth corruption had taken place in a housing programme. Around 300 officials were suspended, a few imprisoned.
He asked collectors to give permission for transporting sand for the construction. KCR added that work on houses meant for the poor should not be stopped in the name of rules and added that government would provide relaxations if needed. The Chief Minister said that the cost of construction of a house in rural areas would be Rs 5.04 lakh and Rs 5.30 lakh in urban areas. He directed officials to gather details of people who have got pattas from government and also those who are in need of houses.
