India and Namibia have made a strong call for reforms in United Nations to give India and Africa their due place in the UN Security Council. President Pranab Mukherjee and his Namibian counterpart Hage Geingob said that it is a great anomaly that India and Africa with over two billion people should be left out of the world body. The two leaders were addressing a banquet hosted in honour of Mr. Mukherjee by the Namibian President in Windhoek last night.
Meanwhile, Namibia assured New Delhi that it will look into legal ways through which its uranium can be supplied to India for peaceful nuclear use. Namibian President also invited Indian companies to directly mine uranium in the West African country. India has reiterated its commitment to a strong development partnership
with Namibia. Addressing the joint session of the Namibian Parliament, President Pranab Mukherjee said that India will continue to extend all possible assistance to the country in achieving its socio economic objectives.
The President said that India will like to partner with Namibia in the implementation of its “Vision 2030” through inclusive development and capacity building. Later addressing the state banquet hosted by his Namibian counterpart in his honour, Mr Mukherjee said that India’s flagship programmes like Skill India, Make in India, Smart Cities and others can be workable models in Namibia. The President will attend a joint business event and an Indian community reception organised in his honour before leaving for New Delhi later today.
